my name is Mindy Stanley Anderson and i began this blog to share updates of my life-as the wife of a melanoma warrior. my husband Marcus lost his battle April 1, 2010. i will continue to blog here in his honor, in hopes that i can help other families during their time of struggle. all glory goes to God-we would not be where we are without his help-with him we can do ANYTHING!
OUR FAMILY
LEARN THE ABCDEF'S OF MELANOMA!!! EARLY DETECTION IS THE KEY!
- ASYMMETRY: Does half of the mole look different from the other half?
- BORDER: Is the border of the mole irregular or ill defined?
- COLOR: Is the color uneven or has it changed over time?
- DIAMETER: Is the mole larger than a pencil eraser?
- ELEVATION: Has the surface of the mole changed? If it was smooth and flat before, is it now elevated ?
- FEELING: Has the sensation around the mole changed? Does it itch? Is it painful?
- PLEASE DO A SKIN EXAM EVERY MONTH AND WATCH FOR THESE SIGNS.

We will praise you in our storm......
So today we heard some good news and some not so good news. Good news: there are no new mets in Marcus' liver, spleen, pancreas, etc...THANK YOU JESUS!!! Not so good news: the tumors in his lungs have grown and do not appear to be responding to IL-2.
So, Dr. Kim has suggested he begin a chemo cocktail called CVD (Cisplatin, Vinblastine, & Dacarbazine)......he can possibly do this locally with Dr. Lavalais (Marcus loves her and hopes she will take this on) if she feels comfortable with it. If not, we will go to MD Anderson to get this treatment. He will go 4 days-all outpatient, have treatments for about 4 hrs each day, then get 17 day break, repeat 4 days, then 17 day break, then scan again. In the meantime, they are going to try again for BRAF testing on the cells from his biopsy in Sept..and see if they can test the cells from the fluid they removed from his lung over the weekend.
Some of you may be disappointed and feel your prayers are not working-please do not feel this way. We know that God is in control and we are waiting patiently for Him to heal Marcus-and we will continue to "praise Him in this storm"-our faith is not shaken-and we pray neither is yours. Marcus and I have felt drawn to Jesus, more than ever and we are ready to battle! So the devil better get ready-we are not letting this slow us down!
If Dr. Lavalais is on board, Marcus could start this treatment by wed or thurs-so we need all prayers to continue-this treatment is 3 different chemos all at once and it will be rough...but Marcus is ready-willing to do whatever God offers him to fight this monster called Melanoma.
So please watch/listen to the video above and do not let the devil shake your faith-Marcus isn't, and neither am I.....So stand strong with us and PRAY, PRAY, PRAY!!!!!
We love you all so very much and thank you for all the text messages, emails and phone calls to check on us!!!

I am so proud of both of you! You, your trials and strong faith have touched so many people. Thank you for the opportunity to grow in relationship in Christ through praying for you all.
I can't imagine the amount of faith it takes to keep your positive attitude. When most people would be focusing on the negative, you are staying strong and focusing on the positive. There is almost always a positive, and by golly, you have found it. I will continue to pray for you and Marcus, et al. I love you so much!
Your words and positive enthusiasm are what Marcus needs now and there's no shortage there!! All he needs to do is look at you and draw strength from you! Stay strong! Wishing you all the best from Washington!
I've already seen miracles come with IL-2, and have heard of others who've benefited from the chemo cocktail - I can't wait to hear Marcus' success story next! Keep the faith, keep praying ('cause I sure am!) and He will get you through!
