  • ASYMMETRY: Does half of the mole look different from the other half?
  • BORDER: Is the border of the mole irregular or ill defined?
  • COLOR: Is the color uneven or has it changed over time?
  • DIAMETER: Is the mole larger than a pencil eraser?
  • ELEVATION: Has the surface of the mole changed? If it was smooth and flat before, is it now elevated ?
  • FEELING: Has the sensation around the mole changed? Does it itch? Is it painful?

WBC count still too low!!

well, interferon wins again on this battle marcus faces! just to recap-they draw labs every friday to make sure his levels are ok for his treatments the following week. well, friday they drew his blood and began his interferon. lab results came back just as he was finishing up his treatment-it was 650-and the nurse said if they had known it was that low before hand, he would not have rec'd his treatment on friday! so she said the treatment he got friday knocked his count even lower-NOT GOOD!

SO, yesterday he had to get labs drawn again to see where his count was, before they would give any treatment. unfortuantely, his count was only 700-still too low-has to be over 1000 before they will give interferon! so, he has to go back on wednesday to check again-if count is up he can finish his last week of high dose interferon!!! Dr. Lavalais also said they will adjust dose to lower amount this last week since his WBC count is being hit so hard. if he is able to resume treatment on wednesday, he will have to go through the weekend to finish-BUMMER-weekends are usually rest days for him!!!

no worries though-he is feeling much better and is optimistic that the next stage (shots 3/weeek) will be better. i have to say, i am so proud of him-he has been so strong and such a good patient :) he has hardly complained at all-and i have seen first hand how rough it has been for him. i can't say that i would have been as good as a patient as he has been-but i pray i could have been. i have hated to see him go through all this-but i have truly enjoyed taking care of him. if you know marcus, he is not one that usually gets taken care of-he is the one that takes care of us!!!! so although the circumstances are not ideal-it has been good for us-we have really been drawn closer than ever through these rough times-and we are determined to fight this battle together-melanoma will not take over!!!!!

well, i will post again after i find out about labs on wednesday.
