OUR FAMILY

LEARN THE ABCDEF'S OF MELANOMA!!! EARLY DETECTION IS THE KEY!

  • ASYMMETRY: Does half of the mole look different from the other half?
  • BORDER: Is the border of the mole irregular or ill defined?
  • COLOR: Is the color uneven or has it changed over time?
  • DIAMETER: Is the mole larger than a pencil eraser?
  • ELEVATION: Has the surface of the mole changed? If it was smooth and flat before, is it now elevated ?
  • FEELING: Has the sensation around the mole changed? Does it itch? Is it painful?
  • PLEASE DO A SKIN EXAM EVERY MONTH AND WATCH FOR THESE SIGNS.

pray it is really over!!

well, yesterday marcus made the decision not to resume his interferon shots. he has not been able to take them for 7 weeks now because his liver enzymes still have not returned to normal. they have come down-but not normal. he is going to have his primary care phys. run further tests to make sure all is well with the liver. after meeting with dr. lavalais, he decided and she supported him-to stop the treatment. as most of you know, the drs at md anderson already told him that there wasn't any scientific data that proved anything more than the first month of high dose actually did anything further to prevent it from coming back. SOOO, after much prayer and discussion, he is done. he says he is now ready to get his life back to normal...get back to doing things with the girls, me, getting our family back into a healthy mind frame.....out of the dreary cloud that melanoma brings over us all. and we are ready too! i told him months ago, that whenever he felt he had enough and wanted to stop-i was behind him 100%....so now he has decided. all we can do from here is pray, pray, pray melanoma stays away-and continue seeing his drs at md anderson every 4-6 months as recommended....and we will do all that!
with that being said, this may be the last post for awhile...you can always see the latest at my other blog (www.momentsbymindy.blogspot.com) but as far as updates with melanoma....this wife is taking a break :) i would be just fine if i never had to hear/say the word again!!!

we love you all and thank you again for your continued prayers and support!!!

YEA! I know Marcus is going to feel so much better! For me, this was really the point where you felt like you could move forward with your life. Melanoma still haunts me, but it does get better! Even though this is the end of melanoma for both of us (hopefully) please keep in touch! There is a really big chance that we may be moving back home, but I'll keep you posted. You and Marcus take care!

Love, Kerri
